The headlines of Wednesday’s tabloids screamed out the headline that proclaimed the Maharashtra government’s progress towards dictatorship.
“Maharasthra Govt. to raise legal drinking age to 25.”
TWENTY-FUCKING-FIVE !!! I could have 5 kids by then. And come to think of it without the booze to keep me occupied, I probably will. You gotta do something, right?
But I’m an optimist. So I try to focus on the bright side of things. If I’m old and mature enough to vote and shape my country’s future and to get married and have kids but not to consume alcohol there has to be something I missed. Maybe I had my head shoved too far down a beer bottle.

Pretty soon the government will start tracking all my activities and I’ll be permitted to urinate only 8 times a week in the interest of public safety and to reduce congestion at public urinals.
Then I recalled that old pastime of sitting with friends over a pitcher of beer. Now that I think of it, that’s become so old and outdated. We need to go out and do something different and virile such as vandalizing liquor stores, eve-teasing young girls, petty theft etc. Maybe I’ll go attend religious and political rallies as well and rant about how my country’s glorious culture has been polluted and how I need to crack open a few skulls to restore it to its past glory. Then maybe I can prove my worth to society.
And this could also prove to be a great employment opportunity for the country’s misguided youth who till now had deluded themselves with engineering and medicine as career options. Smuggling of alcohol is not only immensely more profitable but also a lot more adventurous and fun.
But just raising the drinking age wouldn’t be as effective even though all laws are so stringently followed. Hell, I say we should ban alcohol outright. It’ll make for a fitting addition to the story of a place where prudence, tolerance & secularism are slowly being murdered anyway.
