An absolute gem! If you are not into the whole brevity thing, read on.
The legendary Kanti Shah (Phoolan Hasina Ramkali, Loha, GUNDA, Daku Ramkali) has churned out yet another masterpiece. With their take on the devar-bhabhi relationship – which does not remain platonic, to say the least-Kanti Shah and Pali have boldly gone where no producer-director has ever gone before. The opening scene showing Sapna aka Angoor (sporting a grape studded bikini) running seductively on a beach sets the tempo for the rest of the film. She is a damsel in distress who lives in a beach-facing mansion but is worried about finding the necessary resources to fund her sister’s (Kamini) college education. She marries Mr. Bajaj (a middle aged millionaire) but falls in love with Vicky (Mr. Bajaj’s brother) who later falls in love with Kamini (Sapna’s sister). Amidst all the falling and loving there are innumerable love making sessions (raunchy but absolutely essential to the plot) between every conceivable pair - taking into consideration the four actors.
In one particular scene Sapna is completely soaked after almost drowning in the river and is reeling under the effect of hypothermia. Vicky can think of no other alternative to provide the much needed warmth and decides to indulge in intercourse in a bid to save his bhabhi’s life. The act of intercourse makes you boil with rage but the underlying sacrifice makes you cry with pain. Just like the scene, the entire film is an emotional rollercoaster ride by the end of which you will surely look deep inside your soul and question the choices you’ve made in life. The dialogues, garnished with double entendre, pun, innuendoes and written with the deftness of a seasoned poet once again brings to the fore the Shakespearean side of Kanti Shah.
Of the cast Sapna (played by Neetu) firmly cements her place as India’s Sharon Stone. Vicky (Amit Pachori) is very convincing in his role as the hunky devar and Kamini (Sapna) chips in with a cameo. I would like to end this review by quoting the opening line from the movie:
“Main hoon angoor, kehte hain log jannat ki hoor. Har koi chakna chahe jaroor.”
